Along Came Marriage Teaser
“Dude, I do not want to be in here right now.” Harley shot a murderous look at me as I stared at the wide array of pregnancy books in front of me. “You’re the one that knocked a chick up, not me.”
“This a bookstore, Harley, don’t be an imbecile. Go to another section if you’re feeling overwhelmed.” I mumbled to him, not wanting to admit that I was feeling completely overwhelmed myself. How the hell was I supposed to know which book was the best for me to get to understand Lila’s ever changing moods.
“Imbecile?” Harley raised an eyebrow at me and I gave him a pointed look.
“Maybe check out the dictionary section.”
“Maybe check out the contraception section.” He started chuckling and then pulled out his phone. “Dude we have practice in ten minutes. I’m going to grab a coffee at the Starbucks and then we gotta leave.”
“Fine, fine.” I said and turned back to the books. I stared at the books and took a deep breath. I knew I could just ask an associate to help me, but they all looked like college kids and I didn’t really want to ask them, which was the best book to tell me how much longer Lila and I could have sex and exactly what could we do in the bedroom. I mean, I knew I could also ask Lila, but she was still pretty upset with me from the other night and I didn’t think it was the best idea for me to tell her the other kinky positions I wanted to try before the baby came.
“Hi, Sir, do you need any help today?” A pimply faced teenage boy stopped next to me with an eager face and I just shook my head.
“Nah, I’m okay, thanks.”
“No worries, just ask if you need help.” He said and continued on his way as if he had no worries in the world. Like he didn’t know what it was like to be dating a girl for less than a year and having her knocked her up. I was starting to panic. What sort of father was I going to make and really was I even made to be a father? Maybe I was the sort of guy that should just be the generous uncle rocking his way across the world. I mean there were so many things that Lila didn’t know about me. A part of me wondered if she knew all of my secrets if she would want me to be the father of her baby. Guilt coursed through me as I wondered if I should tell her everything or pray that she didn’t ever find out.
